Dread of Silence

The Naked Monk by Stephen Schettini Stillness is the master of passion —  Tao Te Ching 26 “You teach meditation? I need to do that. Where can I find out more?” So say many people I meet, though few actually sign up. “I’m going through a busy time at work,” they say; or “that’s hockey night.” I’m sure they’re telling the truth, but I’m also sure they’re avoiding the point. Quiet is intimidating. Some of the time we really are busy: creating, studying, engaging with people; we may work simply because we’re good at it and love surfing that tide of accomplishment. Other times we relax in front of the TV, read, chat or play games. We’re always driven to do something. We occasionally call it passing time, as if we have too much on our hands; as if time will never run out. So who can imagine a greater laziness than sitting around doing absolutely nothing — not even thinking. Calling it laziness is yet another evasion, a way to justify avoiding silence. Blame the Protestant Ethic [...]

March 11, 2011 – The Beginning of the Apocalypse or the Greatest Revolution of Consciousness?

By |2017-07-13T17:43:57-04:00March 11th, 2011|Shifting Perspectives|

An 8.9-magnitude quake hit today, the strongest ever recorded in Japan. Is this an isolated event or the tip of the iceberg, a prelude of sorts for upcoming events on our planet? According to many astrologists, psychics, ancient prophecies and even scientists, this is the first of many major catastrophic events about to impact earth.

Strengthening the Human Heart through Healing Hands

By |2017-07-13T17:43:57-04:00February 7th, 2011|Education, Community and Leadership|

They walk among us. Through their loving work, they help to heal the world. Jean Houston calls them “Social Artists”, referring to those who bring focus, passion, skill, tireless dedication and fresh vision to the social arena. Christian Gagne is a social artist, but he is better known in his own circles as a medical doctor. I am privileged to call him a friend. I personally witnessed the compassion and kindness that he infuses into his practice when he sat next to me, providing comfort as my husband (and his friend) passed away. I watched his healing hands gently touch my husband and tend to his comfort in his remaining hours of life. Those same hands have healed thousands and have welcomed countless newborns into the world. It seemed appropriate to me that he would volunteer to work with an organization called, Team Canada Healing Hands (tchh.org). Overcoming Adversity – Survival of the Spirit

By |2017-07-13T17:43:57-04:00January 31st, 2011|Crisis, Loss and Renewal, Guest Blogggers & Interviews|

History has proven time and time again that the resilient nature of the human spirit will ultimately triumph when faced with adversity. Although challenges present themselves in a variety of ways, few of us are untouched by adversity. When we find ourselves in difficult times we must refrain from seeing ourselves as the Captain of a sinking ship but rather at the helm of a vessel that is riding a wave. The waters will be calm again for such is the natural ebb and flow of life.

Emergency or Emergence – You decide

By |2017-07-13T17:43:58-04:00January 14th, 2011|Mind, Body & Spirit, Shifting Perspectives|

We are living in a time of great change and awakening in the western world. We have had incredible advances in technology, medicine and in our fundamental thinking. We have become more tolerant, enlightened and financially secure. Yet we are far more stressed and uncertain of our future than past generations. We fear financial ruin and loss even though we are surrounded by abundance. We seek out negative news to support the view of the reality that we have created for ourselves.

It’s Just Us

While we don’t always look in the right places, wanting to be happy, safe, healthy, and cared for are part of our common nature. Practicing compassion and generosity can be healing and contagious. Listening to each other allows us an opportunity to connect at a basic human level.

Journeying through Darkness

By |2017-07-13T17:43:59-04:00November 18th, 2010|Crisis, Loss and Renewal, Shifting Perspectives|

We need not shy away from darkness, nor do we need to suppress our journeying through darkness. To ensure that we don’t get stuck in a state of emergency, but rather continue in a state of emergence, we need to bring in the light of wisdom, discernment and inner knowing. This Light combined with the loving energy of creativity, passion, service to others, and joy will help complete our metamorphosis.

Successful practices of mindful organizations

By |2017-07-13T17:44:01-04:00May 14th, 2010|Career and Business|

Where two or more gather…let them do so with consciousness Version Français I have spent over 25 years working and consulting for all types of organizations – big, small, public, private, for profit and not. One thing I have found to be consistent is a general malaise in these organizations. The unbridled pursuit of profit at any cost has left them with products that are commoditized, employees at the brink of exhaustion and environments and communities close to depletion. Why is this happening? To understand, I removed myself totally from corporate life and gained a new perspective. I left my consulting practice and immersed myself into the mindfulness community. I went inwards using today’s contemplative practices to gain insight.  I have been researching the most successful leaders in consciousness and sustainability looking for the best wisdom teachings. What I found surprised me and gave me hope. […]
