The graduating class of 2020 has essentially been thrust into the daunting world of adulthood. With the comfort and security of student life gone, new graduates must learn to navigate an uncertain job market without any sense of closure for the end of the life they once knew. Despite the many uncertainties ahead, it is important for new graduates to maintain a positive outlook and not to lose sight of what they have to offer the world. Graduates can use this time of large-scale social change to tap into their potential, discover new interests, and explore their passions.

‘New Year’…New Career?

By |2017-09-04T16:20:51-04:00September 4th, 2017|Business Opportunities, Career and Business, Education, Community and Leadership, Living Your Passion|

The first signs of autumn – cooler evenings and back-to-school flyers – trigger childhood memories of starting a ‘new year.’ Even as adults we associate fall with a fresh start after a few months of greater outdoor living and relaxation. Many of us dream at the tail end of summer about how we might change jobs – or even start a whole new career – as we imagine ways to escape 9-to-5 routines to do more of what inspires us.

Connecting to the deeper, true part of ourselves allows us to tap into the limitless source of creativity, wisdom and guidance. Some call this our intuition or our sub-conscious; while others see this as our ancestors, guides, angels or even God. Either way, connecting with this greater consciousness helps us heal, break free of limiting programming and find the path that best serves both ourselves and others.

“Social Artists” mentoring our children

Dover helps students understand what winter was like for our ancestors Last week, the children at Mount Pleasant Elementary School were treated to an extraordinary outdoor classroom experience, guided by two of our local experts in natural history and biodiversity, Gary Dover and Professor Christopher Buddle. The walk was part of the school’s Green Team program, which promotes environmental literacy and leadership. Helping kids connect to nature, along with reducing waste and conserving energy at the school are the main tenets of the program. Dover lead the kids on a guided tour and imaginary journey to follow the steps of our ancestors. He started by asking the kids to pretend they were living a hundred years ago building a log cabin. The kids eyes lit up with enthusiasm. “Our ancestors used the winter time very productively. It was a period of the year when they weren’t busy farming. They could dedicate their energy to other tasks, like building and repairing their homes,”  Dover explained. He guided the children to look for the appropriate [...]

Strengthening the Human Heart through Healing Hands

They walk among us. Through their loving work, they help to heal the world. Jean Houston calls them “Social Artists”, referring to those who bring focus, passion, skill, tireless dedication and fresh vision to the social arena. Christian Gagne is a social artist, but he is better known in his own circles as a medical doctor. I am privileged to call him a friend. I personally witnessed the compassion and kindness that he infuses into his practice when he sat next to me, providing comfort as my husband (and his friend) passed away. I watched his healing hands gently touch my husband and tend to his comfort in his remaining hours of life. Those same hands have healed thousands and have welcomed countless newborns into the world. It seemed appropriate to me that he would volunteer to work with an organization called, Team Canada Healing Hands (tchh.org). Overcoming Adversity – Survival of the Spirit

By |2017-07-13T17:43:57-04:00January 31st, 2011|Crisis, Loss and Renewal, Guest Blogggers & Interviews|

History has proven time and time again that the resilient nature of the human spirit will ultimately triumph when faced with adversity. Although challenges present themselves in a variety of ways, few of us are untouched by adversity. When we find ourselves in difficult times we must refrain from seeing ourselves as the Captain of a sinking ship but rather at the helm of a vessel that is riding a wave. The waters will be calm again for such is the natural ebb and flow of life.

Remembrance Day Surprises

By |2017-07-13T17:43:59-04:00November 12th, 2010|Guest Blogggers & Interviews, Mind, Body & Spirit|

Remembrance Day held many surprises this year. I am normally very aware of the time, 11/11, holding that minute in a precious space of gratitude, as I acknowledge all who gave in service. Always I am aware of the conflict, honouring war; fighting for peace. In truth I have never understood the operating principles of this planet very well, not until now that is.
