This Month’s Topic: A Deeper Kind of Craving – Healing food & body issues through presence

Guest Speaker: Peggy Farah

Many of us are engaged in a constant struggle with our own bodies. Feeling overweight and ashamed we cycle between bouts of overeating or fanatical dieting.

We spend innumerable hours obsessing about what to eat or wondering about what life will be like when we finally arrive at that desired body. In the process our bodies are subjected to rejection, shame, verbal loathing, deprivation and unhealthy diet regimens and neglect. Although we obsess about our bodies most of us are completely disconnected from a true experience of the body.

Peggy is coming to share her journey researching the phenomenon of presence and how it relates to the healing of food and body issues and actually results in weight loss. She has discovered that practicing presence through mindfulness, mindful eating, meditation, yoga, journaling, art making and ritual can restore connection with our body and transform our relationship with food.

About Peggy

Peggy Farah, BA, MPS, is the creator and facilitator of the Deeper Cravings program. She will be graduating with a Masters in Psychotherapy and Spirituality in the fall where she completed her thesis research on the impact of presence on the relationship with food and our bodies.

Peggy has been involved in supporting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health through program development and delivery for over twenty years in various capacities. Peggy has over 12 years of experience counseling individuals and facilitating support groups. Her professional endeavors have mainly been in the areas of non-profit health organization management and grief and loss and illness counseling. Over the past two years she has been dedicated full-time to raising the two tiny spiritual teachers she lives with, her children and completing her post graduate research thesis A Deeper Kind of Craving.

Peggy’s spiritual path began at age sixteen with a powerful awakening experience that has taken her on an incredible meandering journey of seeking and healing ever since. In May of 2010 inspired by Geneen Roth’s Women, Food and God Peggy turned her focus to exploring the spiritual meaning in her own life-long struggle with her body weight. Through this journey Peggy has transformed her relationship with her body, let go of the diet mentality and as a result is moving closer to her natural healthy weight with a nearly 50 lb weight loss so far.

Peggy has developed the Deeper Cravings program through this recognition that emotional and spiritual hungers result in body weight issues and that the power of presence offers a new and beautiful opportunity to embrace the body and heal the broken relationship with food and achieve our natural healthy weight.
