Bringing Vitality and Resilience into Your Work and Life

To become effective leaders at work and to be more productive and creative, we need to learn how to clear our minds of limiting beliefs and make space for new possibilities and growth. This is how we create better results in future.

In addition, in its 2018 report, Delivering Through Diversity, McKinsey found that companies with the most diverse executive teams are 33% more likely to outperform on profitability. And survey after survey shows that mixed-gender management teams give far better results than single gender teams – of either sex.

Many organizations are understanding that female presence on the floor brings better results for the team, and the connection between wellness at home for and effectiveness at work are crucial. These leading companies are supporting wellness and diversity initiatives in the workplace. One such company is Amdocs, a global technology and services provider to the world’s most successful communications and media companies. Last week, I was privileged to lead AmDocs first Women’s Leadership workshop.

The event was the brainchild of Tatyana Satanovsky, who is a Software Engineer Line Manager for the company and a visionary leader herself. She attended a retreat in Costa Rica that I co-hosted a few years back. It had such a profound impact on her life and work that she wanted to share the experience with her fellow colleagues.

As a change maker, Tatyana understands that great leadership starts with inner alignment and self care. I call this “self leadership”. Self leadership is the practice of intentionally influencing one’s thoughts, emotions and actions towards positive outcomes. Cultivating self leadership helps each individual manage stress, foster resilience and harness their potential.

The workshop started with a message from Tatyana on the vision of women in leadership. Later the team participated in a fireside chat. Through a series of discussions and exercises, the participants learned practical ways to move beyond their comfort zone and address roadblocks that may be holding them back from to them reaching their true potential.

When we broke for lunch, the women had a chance to stretch their legs and breath fresh air by walking the property. Being able to leave the busyness of their lives for a day and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature had a calming effect on each individual.

The afternoon was spent in self discovery, as well as sharing insights and learnings with fellow participants. The program ended on a high note with the team connecting with one another in an open and supportive way.

“Lianne thank you very much for hosting our first Amdocs women’s leadership event in Montreal. It was beautiful day with a lot of to digest and start using in our day-to-day-lives. The corporate world for women has its unique pressures and constrains. To experience such a day full of learning, self discovery and support was amazing. Thank you!” Tatyana

Cultivating self leadership enhances confidence and well being, and also supports improved personal and organizational effectiveness and performance. When we focus on improving our own level of motivation and engagement, we begin to create a ripple effect of positive change in the people around us. When we embody joy, purpose, and a sense of peace in our day-to-day personal and professional lives, this becomes a powerful example for others.
