What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a practical, clinical and medical science. It has existed for over 5,000 years. It’s a proven system of prevention and healing and can be adapted to everyone in all climates and all walks of life simply through….”the art of living in harmony within the laws of nature”. Ayurveda’s goal is to maintain the health of a healthy person through prevention and to cure the disease “process” in an unhealthy person through proper diet, lifestyle changes, personal daily practice and herbal remedies that allow you to live in harmony regardless of what challenges life brings you.

With the use of natural forces such as heat, cold, light, herbs, spices, foods and minerals we have the ability to create harmonious days, every day. When you combine these natural forces with exercise, yoga, meditation, mantras, mudras and different breathing techniques, your mind, emotions and physical health then receive the support they need to maintain vitality, harmony and balance.

More on Alison

Alison’s work in health care nurtured her interest in studying alternative methods of natural healing processes, inspiring her to become a Reiki Practitioner in 2005, following which she ventured into Ayurveda through research, readings and attending workshops. In 2007 she commenced formal studies in Ayurveda at the Ayurvedic Holistic Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, completing a two year Ayurvedic practitioner’s program and later furthered her education at the Centre for Ayurveda and Indian systems of healing in Toronto and completed a doula training program at Rasa Ayurveda in Kerala, India.

Alison’s mission focuses on illuminating one’s intuitive ability for self-healing and balance, through diet, lifestyle management, herbs, meditation and yoga, creating a strong body-consciousness that supports living in harmony through daily, seasonal and life changes.

In addition to her consulting practice, Alison also provides several preventative Ayurvedic therapies aimed at helping to purify and rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit by eliminating toxins and nourishing the body’s tissues.  These treatments facilitate deep relaxation, increased energy, pain relief and clarity of mind. Shirodhara is the most popular of the Ayurvedic therapies and its’ main purpose is to help restore the mind from exhaustion, insomnia, stress, confusion, lethargy, depression and numerous other ailments. Every treatment is individually designed to address each person’s needs and unique make-up.
