What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing is as old as the earth itself and has its roots in many ancient cultures. Science agrees that sound waves affect matter. As energetic beings, we are affected by both the intention and the frequency of vibration. As we are now starting to understand, our thoughts and our words, as well as our actions, have an effect on any outcome.
Healing occurs as the body is given the sacred space and time to re-balance itself. There is no effort required to heal, rather, it is an allowing. When we surrender to our own innate desire to be healthy and whole, the opportunity for healing presents itself.
Through the process of entrainment, where sounds are used to re-mind the listener of their own natural state of balance, sound therapy has the ability to transform negative or repressed emotions into positive, more harmonious states. Healing occurs in these higher states of being.
A sound practitioner uses both voice and intention to support the client’s choice to heal. As harmony is restored between the inner self and the outer expression of our personality, the discordant energies are released. The inner and outer self merge, allowing our life’s purpose to shine through all that we do. We have become our authentic selves.
It is much like a musician first learning how to play an instrument, at first only discordant sounds emerge, but as the novice continues down the road of exploration and practise, eventually the notes become more harmonious! At some point we become musicians. In the same way we can choose to become our authentic selves.
There are many ways to support this journey and they are as unique and many as we are. From body work to soul discovery and spiritual awakening, they all support a fundamental need to connect more deeply with ourselves. All outer relationships mirror this one important relationship to self. If you hold an unhealthy connection to this inner self then all outer relationships, whether they are personal, work related or held in your physical body, will show you this imbalanced state. It is only finally by accepting responsibility for our own inner feeling state of being that we can make the ultimate choice to heal and to feel better about ourselves. The how does not matter at all.
If you are struggling with any of life’s issues and find yourself in a repetitive cycle of negative experiences, sound healing may be appropriate for you. This is an integrative approach to healing and requires the client’s willingness to be accountable in their own life. This does not replace any medical attention that you require to take care of current conditions. It is a complimentary addition to any form of body work that may speed up or ease your healing process and deepen the awareness of your life circumstances.
