The hybrid model is becoming a popular way of working, shopping, eating out, exercising, learning and connecting with loved ones.

Over the past two years, the way we work and play have dramatically transformed. The increase in remote work, e-learning, shopping online, social media, and online entertainment have provided immense opportunities in efficiencies, convenience and global access to goods and services.

Isolation and increased time in front of screens have also had major disadvantages. According to the Barna Research Group, 31% of U.S.A. adults report feeling lonely at least some of each day. Kevin Roose, the author of Futureproof argues, “People who have regular, in-person contact with their colleagues have an advantage when it comes to doing the kinds of deeply human work we will need to do in the future.”

As lock downs and restrictions ease around the world, most of us are considering the best way forward. Many companies are adopting a hybrid model, where people work remotely part of the week, and at the office the other part.

This hybrid approach is not restricted to the workplace. Many gyms and yoga studios that created online classes during the pandemic are now offering hybrid models where clients can decide if they want in-person or online fitness classes. Restaurants that were forced to offer curb-side pick up are opting to continue this service, while opening their dining rooms to the public.

Online learning is taking a similar approach. Many course providers are trying to find a middle ground, where students get the convenience of remote learning with the connection of in-person classes.

While I have been offering both online and in-person training options for many years, I’m now introducing programs that integrate both. For example, my new WorkLife Reboot Your Worklife program provides an immersive day-long in-person workshop, combined with a three-month intensive online program, followed by a 6 month membership to keep students connected and accountable.

Being innovative requires adaptability, and we have all had to adapt over the past two years. Now’s the time to test out innovative solutions. Whether you are offering employment, a learning environment, a product or service, the most successful strategies will include hybrid options for your employees, students and clients.
